What is the Women’s Department?

The Women’s department of Wollongong University is an approachable diverse group of women who are working within our university community to bring change that will improve the conditions of all women of many ages and walks of life on our campus. It involves and incorporates the Women’s Collective, The Women’s Space, and the Women’s Representative as a women’s liason on WUSA.

The women’s Collective is a group of women who meet and discuss the political and social issues of our campus community and in the wider world. The collective meets every Wednesday at 12:30 during lunch in the Women’s space. The collective welcomes all views and beliefs and believes in equity amongst all its members. The collective meetings are to recommence 1st week of semester 2.

The Women’s Space:

The women’s space is a women’s only room on campus, located on the ground floor of  the Unicentre building (building 11), next to Clubs and Societies. It has a microwave, a bathroom, comfy chairs, an urn and reading material available to all female students. This space will be looking a little different in the coming weeks and will take shape into a new more comfortable area for the women of UOW.

Women’s Week

This year women’s week will commence on the 8th of August, National Abortion Rights Day, While we may not all agree on the topic it is an important issue for women of any generation! There is talk of a debate on this day and I hope that this week can be more about education, understanding and diversity of opinion than Men Vs Women! or worse women vs. women!!.
